You've heard it a countless amount of times: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It sounds good in theory, but during a busy morning, breakfast can be a low priority.
The Importance of Breakfast
You've heard it a countless amount of times: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It sounds good in theory, but during a busy morning, breakfast can be a low priority. If you don’t eat breakfast regularly, though, it’s time to start re-thinking your ways. Breakfast provides the fuel you need after an overnight fast – literally breaking the fast.
Why You Should Be Eating a Healthy Breakfast:
- Breakfast for Brain Health – If you want to get your brain ready for the day, make sure you eat a healthy breakfast within an hour or two of waking. Eating breakfast restores glucose levels – this is a necessary carbohydrate needed for the brain to function. When you eat breakfast, you’ll be able to concentrate on the tasks ahead of you.
- Keeps Weight at Bay – When you are asleep, your body doesn’t burn as many calories. This means that if you don’t eat until lunch, your body could begin to think that it is starving, meaning it will store unnecessary calories. Eating breakfast will also keep you from overeating. You will keep portions under control, rather than being famished and gorging at lunch.
- Happiness All Around – When you eat breakfast, have you noticed that you are in a better mood? You gave your body the nutrients it craved overnight, therefore making you feel better both physically and mentally!
So, now that you know why it’s important to eat breakfast, let’s give you the most important part of breakfast: the food!
- Eggs – Packed with protein and choline – a healthy brain food element.
- Oats – Oats contain iron, zinc, and B vitamins – all nutrients that support brain function.
- Almond Butter Toast – Use whole grain bread for fiber, so you stay full longer. Almond butter contains high concentrations of vitamin E – good for brain health.
- Avocados – Avocados contain monounsaturated fats that contribute to healthy brain function!
