Pear and Arugula Pizza
What if we told you that you can have pizza while still keeping it brain healthy? It's true! Pizza has gotten a bad rap, but really, it all comes down to the kinds of ingredients you use.
Here is a delicious walnut, pear, blue cheese and arugula pizza recipe. The walnuts on the pizza have high levels of DHA, which is a type of Omega-3 fatty acid. DHA has been shown to improve cognitive performance in adults.
Arugula is high in nitrates, meaning it can increase blood flow to the brain.
Pears contain high levels of antioxidants, which can help to maintain brain health.
Ingredients:
- Pre-made Pizza Dough
- 2 pears, sliced
- ½ cup blue cheese
- 1 ounce chopped walnuts
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 cups arugula
- 6 ounces fresh mozzarella
Directions:
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
Place the chopped walnuts on a baking sheet. Place in the oven for 10 minutes.
Once the walnuts are done toasting, increase the oven temperature to 475 degrees.
Brush the pizza dough with olive oil. Sprinkle the mozzarella down on the crust first. Next layer on the pear slices, sprinkle the toasted walnuts over, and finally the blue cheese.
Once the oven is heated, place pizza in the oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
Let the pizza cool for 10 minutes, and then sprinkle the arugula on top. Slice up and enjoy!
