Tips for Sleeping 101: What To Know

Are you wondering how to keep healthy? If so, you need to focus on the quality of the sleep you get at night. Adequate sleep is incredibly important for health and wellness, and lots of people fall short of the sleep they require. The average adult requires between seven and eight hours of sleep per night. Some people have a hard time falling asleep, while other people have a hard time staying asleep. If you want to lead a healthy lifestyle, take a look at some of the important sleep tips below.

1. Avoid Screens Before Bed

A lot of people like to wind down in the evening by watching a few videos on the computer or watching an episode of a TV show. Even though this is a great way to relax, the blue light from the screen can also stimulate the brain, keeping you awake precisely when you want to go to bed. Try to avoid screens for approximately 30 minutes before you fall asleep

2. Do Not Drink Caffeine in the Afternoon

Even though coffee can be great for brain support, caffeine in the afternoon can also keep you awake when you want to go to sleep. Caffeine has a half-life of approximately five hours. This means that if you drink caffeine in the afternoon, it may still be in your system when you try to go to sleep. Avoid caffeine in the afternoon if you want to fall asleep easily.

3. Stick To a Regular Sleep Schedule

You need to stick to a regular sleep schedule if you want to develop a smooth circadian rhythm. Many people have a hard time falling asleep because their bodies do not have a solid schedule. If you go to sleep at the same time every evening, you should have an easier time falling asleep.

4. Do Not Read or Watch TV in Bed

You need to tell your body that when you crawl into bed, it is time to go to sleep. If you do other activities in bed, such as reading or watching TV, your body may not register that the bed is supposed to be for sleep. Train your body so that when you crawl into bed, it is time for sleep.
